The MMC Mapping and Documentation Branch Chief and Documentation Technical Lead are based at the USACE Kansas City District. The documentation team is responsible for creating, editing, and reviewing technical documents developed by the MMC. The team has three editors at Kansas City, one virtual member in Tulsa, and one virtual member in New Orleans. They also assist other USACE offices with technical editing when called upon.
Sample documents from customers include water control manuals (WCM), emergency action plans (EAP), Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals, water management planning, risk communication, and other high-level documents. A standard report is written for each dam, appurtenant structure, and levee studied by the MMC summarizing modeling and consequences results. Reports differ for each project type.
The documentation team is responsible for working with the project manager to ensure the correct report template(s) and consequence spreadsheet (CTS) are available. They load the report templates needed to the project folder (e.g., HMCAS, HMCAS NAV, ASH etc.) to reduce confusion and ensure the current templates or type of reports are available for a project.
MMC internal drafts of the reports are stored on and edited within the MMC Team SharePoint project folders. Final and district independent quality reviewed (IQR) technical reports are posted to Corps of Engineers Dam and Levee Safety (CEDALS) ProjectWise project folders.
Overall, the MMC documentation team plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of technical documents related to dam and levee safety. Their expertise and assistance are available to other USACE offices as needed.
